While digital platforms were once considered an escape from routine, the current scenario has resulted in individuals being tethered to screens, neglecting the importance of breaks and a connection with the physical world. What do we consider an ‘escape’?

Conducted interviews across various age demographics to understand individual perceptions of the term "escape." From children to seniors, conversations encompassed a spectrum of perspectives. This inquiry served as an insightful exploration, revealing the distinct and personalized approaches each individual adopts for their moments of respite.

Introducing, Helix

Where serenity meets playfulness for a soothing escape in every moment.

As we navigate through long working hours and embrace the digital age, Helix aims to provide a tangible escape – a toy that goes beyond entertainment, offering a therapeutic experience. Focused on enhancing mental well-being, it is crafted to be a soothing companion during those moments when a break from technology becomes essential.

Prototype

How does it work?

The toy features a spiral structure allowing the player to navigate a ball from the outer ring to the center and back. It's collapsible, offering flexibility in form for users to fiddle with. As the ball moves, it generates a gentle vibration and a soothing sound reminiscent of a cobblestoned path, thanks to strategically placed rectangular chips.

Designed to provide a therapeutic break during short intervals, the toy engages users while allowing their minds to wander freely. Inspired by nature, the sound elements evoke an outdoor ambiance, offering a brief and rejuvenating escape from work.

Helix offers a glimpse into the multifaceted human yearning for "escape" in our digitally saturated world. It unveiled the diverse desires for digital escape, from playful youth to spa-seeking adults. The prototype proved that tangible beauty and interaction can be therapeutic in the digital age. This project highlights the importance of embracing diverse needs, prioritizing well-being over mere entertainment, and exploring beyond the screen for mindful disconnection.
